EVENT CELEBRITY Al Unser, Sr. is a four-time Indy 500 winner. At 644 laps, he has led the most laps of any driver in the history of the race. He raced in his first Indy 500 in 1965 and is one of the few drivers to win the race in consecutive years, 1970 and 1971. He holds the record of being the oldest driver to ever win the 500 at 47 in 1987, breaking the previous record set by his brother Bobby. He is the only person to have both a sibling (Bobby) and a child (Al Jr.) as fellow winners. An honored member of the Motorsports Hall of Fame, Unser also won the Champcar championships in 1970, 1983, and 1985.

PACE CAR DRIVER Dominic Dobson has competed in seven consecutive Indianapolis 500 mile races, 66 CART/PPG Indy Car World Series races over a 10-year span, as well as five 24 Hours of Daytona events and the 1989 24 Hours of LeMans.

EVENT DESCRIPTION
The Pacific Northwest Historics features many of the world’s rarest and most beautiful pre-1970 race cars. This year, more than 250 vintage race cars are expected to enter. Favorites include Ferraris, Lotuses, Cobras, Corvettes, Porsches, Austin Healeys and some less recognizable names like Elva, Ginetta, and McLaren. Most are in mint condition through extensive restoration and many attain speeds in excess of 150 miles per hour. Some of the cars are valued at over $1 million and many have impressive racing histories. Competitors come from all over the West Coast and Canada. The wheel-to-wheel competition on the challenging 2.25 mile road course includes nine turns and a 200-300 foot elevation drop. The paddock area is open to all spectators.

FEATURED GRID The Historic Stock Car Racing series is an organization dedicated to the continued competition of former NASCAR stock cars. It is composed of owners and drivers who believe that these historic thoroughbreds
belong on a race track and not in a museum.

FEATURED DISPLAY Porsche’s official date of birth is considered June 8, 1948 so we salute this marque on its 60th Anniversary. The first model with chassis number 356.001 was only a few weeks old when, in July 1948, it scored its first
class victory in the Innsbruck City Race. To this day hardly any other marque has brought home as many overall wins and world championships as Porsche. In the 24 Hours of Le Mans alone, now the oldest and most famous long-distance race in the world, Porsche has clinched victory 15 times.

CAR CORRAL An additional 250 vintage and collector cars from local car clubs will be on display in the car corral.

PRESENTERS Society of Vintage Racing Enthusiasts (SOVREN) & the SOVREN Guild of Children’s Hospital.

CONFIRMED SPONSORS
Title Sponsor, Phil Smart Mercedes-Benz; Presenting Sponsor, Edelbrock Corporation; Premier Sponsor: Jackson Dean Construction, Associate Sponsors, Mulvanny G2 Architects, UBS Financial Services, CCS Printing, Windward Press.

BENEFICIARY All proceeds benefit uncompensated care at Children’s Hospital and Regional Medical Center in Seattle. Over the last 19 years, over $5.5 million dollars has been raised at the races. Our goal for the 2008 races is $550,000.

Torchlight Parade. (7/26/2008)
The longest parade and perhaps the highlight of the season. Twelve club members are already listed. Last year we had 14 Corvette convertibles so there is still room. We gather at 3 pm for lunch, roll into position at 4:30 pm, begin the parade about 7 pm. We are spread throughout the parade. Last car finishes about 10 pm. The parade route is over 4 miles long, travels down 4th avenue and is televised locally. Our cars look really sharp. The Corvettes used in this parade are by special arrangement only. Torchlight is so long that we are limited to cars carrying dignitaries only.
